Meet the Horses

Emperor
14.1hand Dartmoor hill pony
He is a handsome  Grey Pony with an interesting breeding. He is 6 years old and his mother is a Dartmoor Hill Pony who lead a feral life on the moors. His father is an Anglo Arab.

The Hill ponies have valuable genetics, providing very hardy ponies that are able to endure their harsh environment.

Meadow
14.2 Haflinger

At one time Beechwood had a small herd of ‘Haffys’, known as our Sunshine Ponies, as they have a lovely, sunny disposition.  Meadow is very popular with children and lightweight ladies.  She enjoys school work, jumping, pub rides and the occasional day’s hunting.  A true sweetie.

Tinkerbelle
11.2 welsh mountain pony

Tinkerbelle is Jessie’s very best friend and they hate to be separated for long.  She will safely allow the tiniest child to groom her and loves the attention she gets on our Pony Days
.

Toddy
15.3 bay with a white tail!

A good-natured soul who joined Beechwood in September 2013, as his previous owner was off to university.  He has plenty to offer his riders and has proved to be patient and understanding.

Mozart
14.2 Grey Highland

Highland ponies are very versatile and have amazing temperaments.  He is happy to take the smallest child on their first riding experience or an advanced rider around a cross-country course.

Biro
Welsh Cob cross Hackney

A handsome black horse with presence to burn.  He started his career as a show carriage driving horse, with numerous wins to his name.  He is now turning his hoof to dressage with obvious enjoyment, as his paces are rhythmical and balanced.  He has a large ‘Fan Club’, as all who ride him love him.

Darcy
11.3 Welsh Pony

A 11.3Hh Welsh Pony, he is the most adorable and friendly chappie. He is a 6 year old and has been carriage driving before coming to ride and drive at Beechwood.
Skye
15.1 Bay Highland cross Thoroughbred

A good looking horse who has been in the Beechwood team for some time.  She has good balanced paces which make her a good ‘lunge horse’ for novice or lapsed riders, coming back to riding.  She enjoys her private and group lessons too, with ladies or children.

Gloria
16.3 Dutch warmblood

An elegant lady who has lovely, balanced paces for dressage and show jumping.  She possesses an enviable laid-back approach to life.

Princess
15.1 flea-bitten grey

Yes, she really is a princess!  Very girly and elegant, she enjoys carriage driving and has attended the London Harness Horse Parade for the last 3 years, achieving a First Class Award every time.  When she takes time out from driving, she concentrates on her dressage.  As a sensitive, responsive horse she prefers the more experienced rider to enjoy dressage with her.

Dylan
14.1 Bay Cob

What can I say about Dylan?  A perfect example of a cob.  A smart, good-natured, handy all rounder, unfazed by anything.  Always gives his best.  He has hunted the last three seasons, but will take great care of the younger children too.

Farmer & Farrier
12.2 Bay Dartmoor ponies

Farmer and Farrier are half-brothers who have never been separated.  They were born on Dartmoor and have well-developed pony initiative and enchanting looks, with long manes and tails.  They carriage drive as a pair and also take our smaller riders through from beginners lessons to jumping.

Prince Ronan aka '41'
Strawberry Roan

Named 41 as that was his lot number when purchased, in very poor condition, from a horse auction.  He was unhandled and suffering from neglect.  He is now a loveable, friendly chappie who is learning all about being ridden and now has a future to look forward to.

Eeyore
Donkey

A noisy, bossy member of the Beechwood team.  He can be heard ‘eeyoring’ all over Woldingham.  But he is always ready to have a pat; he has huge ears and a very soft muzzle.

Hobbit
A purebred 15.3 Friesian

He is a true gentleman, extremely handsome with a flowing, curly black mane and tail.  His exceptionally unflappable nature makes him the perfect mount for nervous or novice riders.  He also enjoys Pub Rides and the occasional day’s hunting.

Chance
15.1 dark bay Irish cob

Chance has been at Beechwood for some years now and so knows the ropes.  She is popular with all levels of riders and is a good, well-mannered all rounder.

Spitfire & Hurricane
Mini Spotted Ponies

Two sweet little ponies.  We sometimes have Inner City children on special Pony Days and they both do a sterling job with these children, who are unfamiliar with animals, by allowing them to lead and groom them safely.
